You've done a lot of the right things.

You've saved. You've invested. You probably have CPF.
‍
Maybe an endowment or two. Some savings in a fixed deposit you know isn't doing much. But somewhere along the way, you feel a quiet anxiety set in.
‍
“Am I actually on track? Or am I just busy feeling like I'm doing okay?”
‍
The closer you get to retirement, the louder that question gets. Because retirement in your 50s isn't just about how much you've saved.
‍
It's about a set of decisions that are more complicated, more consequential, and more irreversible than anything you’ve faced before.

Most of what's out there was built for people just getting started.

General ETF advice. Basic brokerage guides. Content aimed at 28-year-olds with a 35-year or 40-year runway.
‍
That's not you. You're at a different stage.

The rules are different. The stakes are higher. And the decisions you make in the next few years will shape the next 30.

Here's what I hear most from people approaching retirement:

“I have savings but I don't know how to make them work harder.”

"I want to retire before 65 but I don't know how to bridge the gap."

"I don't know how to shift from building wealth to actually living off it."

"I've started investing but I'm not confident I'm doing the right things at my age."

"I haven't saved enough and I need to catch up but I don't know where to start."

"I know about CPF and SRS in theory. I just haven't applied any of it."

If any of that sounds familiar, you're not behind. You're just missing a plan built specifically for where you are.

By the end of four weeks, you'll have one thing most people your age don't:

A complete and structured retirement framework that allows you to plug in your numbers, your CPF situation, your timeline, and your actual life.

Not generic investing advice. Not a list of things to Google. A real-life approach to real-life issues in retirement planning, done.

And alongside it, you’ll have the confidence to invest for your retirement without “guesstimating” or being thrown off course by the typical retirement scaremongering out there.

  • You'll know exactly where you stand
  • You'll know what to do with your CPF before 55
  • You'll know how to fund the years before CPF LIFE kicks in
  • You'll know what your portfolio should look like at your age and what to do if it doesn't
  • You'll know how to generate income from your investments without burning through capital too fast
  • And you'll have made the decisions that most people spend years putting off

This course is perfect for you if:

You're in your late 40s or 50s and retirement is no longer abstract... it's actually coming

You have savings or investments but you're not confident they're set up right for your stage of life

You want to retire before 65 and you need to know how to fund the years before CPF LIFE kicks in

You understand CPF and SRS in theory but you haven't actually applied any of it properly

You don't know how to shift from growing your wealth to living off it

You want have a solid plan that works for your specific situation

What's included in this retirement course?

4 live sessions over 4 weeks. Each session runs 60 minutes on Zoom, with an additional 30 minutes of live Q&A. Everything is recorded and available on-demand if you miss a session or want to revisit. Everyone will have lifetime access to the recordings.
📓

Session 1:
Where Do You Actually Stand?

12 Aug 2026 @ 8:00PM SGT
‍
Forget the “magic number” myth. This session is about finding the one number that actually matters.
  • Calculate your income replacement ratio (the real measure of whether you're on track)
  • Audit everything you currently hold: ETFs, endowments, ILPs, robo-advisors, unit trusts and identify what's still working
  • Map your three income streams: CPF LIFE, investment income, and capital drawdown
💵

Session 2:

The Bridge Period

19 Aug 2026 @ 8:00PM SGT
‍
The years between stopping work and CPF LIFE kicking in at 65 are the most financially exposed period of your retirement, and most people don't plan for them until it's almost too late.
  • The bucket strategy for funding your bridge years
  • Three real scenarios based on different retirement ages
  • What a sustainable income from your investments actually looks like in Singapore
  • Know exactly how many years you need to fund, how much capital that requires, and where the gap is
📈

Session 3:

Building a Portfolio for Your Age

26 Aug 2026 @ 8:00PM SGT
‍
Asset allocation matters more than stock picking.
  • A practical, age-based allocation framework
  • The two-layer portfolio: income + inflation protection
  • Risk appetite vs. risk capacity and why they're not the same thing
  • Platform comparison: Endowus, FSMOne, IBKR, Syfe plus what's CPF and SRS eligible
💡

Session 4:

CPF, SRS, and Making It Last

2 Sept 2026 @ 8:00PM SGT
‍
The decisions that can't be undone after 55, explained clearly.
  • CPF top-ups, SA shielding, and the ERS question
  • CPF LIFE options (Basic, Standard, Escalating) and which one actually fits your life
  • SRS: how to invest it properly instead of leaving it in cash, and how to withdraw it tax-efficiently
  • Sequence of returns risk: the biggest late-stage risk almost nobody talks about
  • Sustainable withdrawal rates, longevity risk, and the healthcare costs most people underestimate
💬

Live Office Hours

About Tim

I'm Tim Phillips. I spent 15 years in the finance industry at Schroders and CGS International, working in investment management and private wealth across Hong Kong and Singapore.
‍
I left to build Tim Talks Money because I kept seeing the same thing: good people making 100%-avoidable financial mistakes because the right information was buried, jargon-heavy, or designed to sell them something simply because of the fee incentive.
‍
I've helped thousands of Singapore-based investors get started with investing through my courses, newsletter, and social content. But the questions I get most from people in their 50s are different; they're more urgent, more specific, and harder to find good answers to.
‍
Everyone is different and everyone’s retirement will look different. That's why I built this course. I'm also a father of two and I think about this stuff for my own retirement too. This isn't theory and there’s no one “right” answer for retirement. This course shows people how to find their own way, whatever stage of their pre-retirement investing journey they’re in.

Why Tim is the go-to personal finance expert for thousands of Singapore-based investors

"I've been following Tim for over a year. He's the only finance content creator who actually gives you the specific answer instead of the general one."
"The way Tim explains CPF LIFE and the ERS decision finally made it click for me."
"Tim's explains everything about personal finance and investing in a such a clear way. I had a lot of questions about my portfolio and strategy and he took the time to answer me."
"I trust Tim's insights on investing. He gives level-headed explanations and makes things easy to understand for any beginner investor."

You might be thinking:
"What if I haven't started investing yet? Is it too late to invest at 50?"

Simple answer: No, it's not too late. Here's the maths.
‍
$1,000 a month from 50 to 65, growing at a conservative 6%, becomes roughly $290,000 by 65. Leave it alone until 75, and it's just over half a million.
‍
Already sitting on savings? $100,000 invested responsibly becomes around $240,000 by 65. Around $430,000 by 75.
‍
Your money doesn't stop growing the day you retire. You're spending it down over 20, 25, even 30 years. So the real question isn't “Do I have enough time?”... It's “Am I using the time I have correctly?”
‍
That means playing a different game than a 25-year-old. Protect the downside. Skip the expensive products. Let CPF be your floor, and let low-cost ETFs do the growing.
‍
This course is the framework that turns “is it too late” into “here's my plan.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what people often ask me about the course...

Do I need to have completed Investing Made Simple first?

No. This course is designed to stand on its own. If you've done IMS, you'll find the first session moves faster for you but it's not a prerequisite. This course covers different material for a different life stage.

What if I miss a live session?

Every session is recorded. You'll have access to all recordings with lifetime access. That said, the live sessions (especially office hours) are where the most useful conversations happen. We'd encourage you to attend live where possible.

Is this relevant if I'm an expat without CPF?

Definitely. Sessions 1, 2, and 3 are fully relevant: income gap, bridge period, and portfolio construction apply regardless of CPF status. Session 4 is heavily CPF and SRS-focused. If you're an expat, you’re likely utilising the SRS but obviously the CPF portion won’t be relevant.

What platform are the sessions on?

The live sessions will be on Zoom and you will also be invited to our course platform Kajabi for additional course materials.
